ABOUT ABOUT

For the last 20 years, we have been doing small group classes and tutoring for Chief and Deputy Chief candidates.  The Bernstein students have consistently had the highest scores in the state.

For the June 2020 exam, we will meet on ten (10) different days.  These sessions will cover all the areas Dr. Bernstein feel have a high probability of appearing on your exam.  The lead instructor will be Chief Vince Quatrone.  Chief Quatrone and Dr. Bernstein have devised the training content.  Those who attend, will see it will be dead on for your exam.

In the June 2020 orientation guide, Civil Service identified the following as potential source material for your exam:

The following sources may be used by the Civil Service Commission to develop test questions for these exams. (Please note, however, that the development of all test questions may not be restricted to these particular sources.):

  • Constitution of the United States and Amendments
  • Past & current United States and New Jersey court decisions (Case Law)
  • N.J.S.A. 2C, Title 2A, Title 9
  • Motor Vehicle and Traffic Laws Title 39
  • New Jersey Attorney General Guidelines & Directives

There may also be questions on the exam that are more scenario-based, where candidates are placed in a job-related situation and asked how they should best respond to it. (E.g., disciplinary problems, crime prevention, police/community relations, organizational change, etc.) Justification for correct responses will be based on the collective experience of Police Subject Matter Experts. For these questions, candidates will have to apply their technical knowledge and knowledge of administrative and supervisory principles.

Those who attend will receive relevant study materials for all of these areas.  Students will also be practiced extensively.  You should know that the New Jersey Chief and Deputy Chief's exams are a straight oral assessment.  In addition to the in-class sessions, there will be class assignments.  All assignments will focus candidates on areas that have a high probability of being tested.

The fee for the course is $2,450.  The classes will be held in Central and North Jersey.  The times will be 6:00pm to 10:00pm for most of the classes.  Below is the course schedule:
